Dear all, welcome to week 1 Term 4
Year 10 Growth

Our Year 10 students were treated to an inspiring talk from Chantelle Baxter, co-founder of One Girl during Wednesday’s Growth lesson. One Girl was founded on the idea that if you educate a girl you can transform her life. They work primarily in Sierra Leone, one of the most dangerous places in the world to be born female, and for every $300 that One Girl raises, another girl receives an education for a year. Chantelle spoke about her career path and how she has come to running a charitable organisation that changes lives while still in her twenties. The students listened to stories of poverty and hardship that Chantelle had witnessed first-hand in Africa and left feeling grateful for the opportunities we are lucky enough to have living in Australia. The Year 10s are keen to take part in their own “Do It in a Dress” challenge here at FHC later in the year: watch this space. Check out onegirl.org.au for more info.

Year 10 History World War 2

Students explored World War 2 Memorabilia and were able to dress in soldier uniforms during class as part of their World War 2 studies. Students examined a variety of sources  including soldier identity tags, Victoria Cross medals, field dressings, steel helmet, water bottles, badges, map case and Buna map etc. Case studies included the fall of Singapore, the sinking of HMAS Perth.
