Dear all, welcome to week 9 Term 2.

Debating Success

On Thursday night all 3 teams won their debates. This is a wonderful achievement and debating staff Ms Zemkanlnis and Ms Romanis were ecstatic with the win. Assistant Principal Ms Cook had the pleasure of watching the debates and was glowing in her praise of both students and staff who she said had met her very high expectations of them. In even more exciting news, this win could see our "A" Grade team assume outright top position on the ladder.

Staff Performance Planning

On Wednesday this coming week all staff will be writing their 2014/15 performance plans. They will be establishing goals and strategies designed to progress all students in their learning to achieve their own personal best in all classes. We have been doing a lot of professional learning to build our competencies around identifying where all students are in their learning and how best to ensure they all achieve 1 years growth in 1 years teaching.

Growth Community Visits
This week one of our Growth classes went out on community visits. Students demonstrated their independence by using public transport to travel to either Blackburn Lake or the Christian Blind Mission and the Louise Multi Cultural Centre, where they were required to check in with their teacher. The students at Blackburn Lake learnt about the history of the lake, how the development and preservation of the local environment has improved over time and had a guided nature walk. The students who visited the Christian Blind Mission and the Louise Multi Cultural Centre learnt about how these organisations support the community in their own way. The classes will be swapping venues for visits continuing next week.

NEVR Cross Country

On Wednesday 17 June 2014, 16 Forest Hill College students went to Yarra Glen Racecourse to compete in the Eastern Metropolitan Region Cross Country Competition. All students represented the College with enthusiasm, eager to do their school proud with a number of students recording outstanding results. The most impressive of these being Holly T who finished second in her age group and as a result she will now go on to represent Forest Hill College at the State Finals during Term 3. Other strong performances included Jack P (15th), Jackson T (20th) and Mitch M  (25th) in their respective age groups. Congratulations to all students who competed at a high level throughout the day and did Forest Hill College extremely proud. We wish Holly well at State Finals.

T4 Machine Shop Back in Business

The T4 Machine Shop is now open for business following some safety upgrades to the mills, lathes and drills. Enthusiastic students Conor and Phoenix have given up their lunchtimes this week working on school community based projects. Students will have the opportunity to use the facilities at the machine shop for their own projects or extra-curricular activities.

Basketball Marathon 2014 - "Disney vs DreamWorks"

Excitement is building for BBM14 - "Disney vs DreamWorks"
We are now within 50 days of the event!!
BBM14 will be held from Thursday 31 July - Friday August 1st 2014.
The Basketball Marathon is a fundraising initiative of Forest Hill College. Students gather sponsorships and play basketball for 24 consecutive hours in our college gymnasium (9am-9am) to raise money for The Leukaemia Foundation and Forest Hill College.
The Basketball Marathon was established by students and staff 25 years ago in memory of a past teacher, Geoff Davies, who battled cancer. The annual fundraising event is a part of our College culture and has helped to create an enthusiastic College spirit and sense of community. In 25 years, we have raised over $80,000 for The Leukaemia Foundation, various other charities and school facilities.

In 2014 we hope to raise $15,000. With this money we have chosen to help fund the research projects of our long-time partners The Leukaemia Foundation, as well as student facilities at the college.
Permission/Medical forms have gone out to all students via homegroup this week.
Return these to the Library to secure your BLUE fundraising form.

Any questions can be directed to your BBM team representatives, who will make themselves known to you in home groups this week.

Breakfast Club
After another successful term of Breakfast Club we have now closed the roller door until early next term. It is estimated that we have served around 1000 individual breakfasts ranging from Bacon and egg rolls to pancakes. Thanks to all the staff, students and volunteers for all their hard work throughout this busy term. Look forward to seeing you all in Week 2 of Term 3.
