Dear all, welcome to week 3 Term 2. It has indeed been a very exciting week at Forest Hill College with the announcement of Mr Rogers to continue as Principal for at least the next 5 years.
College Assembly
This Monday we held a whole College Assembly. The College value the students focused on was "love of learning." Our Year 9 Captain Dom led the students through a detailed explanation of this value. Following that the College Council President officially announced that Mr David Rogers has been appointed as College Principal for the next 5 years. Council President Mr Cheah explained that the College is embarking on very exciting times.
Mr Rogers brings a wealth of experience leading this College and explained he was proud to be able to continue the momentum the College has been developing over recent years. He stated that the College would continue to focus on the strengths of each individual student and work hard to develop the talents of all individuals within the College.
He said that his work would be directed at ensuring student achievement in a College that sets high expectations and provides support to assist all students in their quest to achieve their own personal best.
Careers News
Welcome to Term 2.
The Careers Desk
is now receiving the 2015 Course Guides from Universities and Tafes. These
showcase the courses that will be offered next year, for our Yr 12 students to
investigate. It also means that tertiary providers are now preparing for their
Open Days, that are taking place this term and next term. I encourage all
students in Yr 10, 11 and 12 and their families and friends to visit as many
Unis and Tafes and private college providers as possible
To assist
parents/students to plan visits to the many Open Days, seminars/workshops/expos
offered for 2014, I am pleased to inform our community of Forest Hill College, that
we now have a Careers Website that is a “one stop shop” to browse all things
related to pathways and transitions. Please follow the link below, which can also be accessed via our Moodle Page, under the Staff and Student icons; “ FHC Careers”
There is loads of information for you to access, which is current and applicable to Victoria and other Australian states. Don’t waste any more time, explore the website and I welcome your feedback.
A reminder that
“The Age VCE Careers Expo” is currently happening and will end Sunday 11
May, at the Caulfield Racecourse.

Vocal Tutorial
This Thursday we were excited to have vocal coach Veronica Lees do some training in a workshop exclusively for talented vocalists at FHC. She worked with 13 of our students in the new recording studio in M12 to develop their skills. The students enjoyed the session and it is yet another example of how the College music program continues to grow.
Mock United Nations Assembly
Last week-end, Scott F. and James W. represented Iraq in the
annual Mock United Nations Assembly at Parliament House in Melbourne.
There, resplendent in their Thobes and traditional Islamic headscarves, they
met with students from all around Victoria who represented 40 other countries
of the United Nations. Scott and James argued alongside other Eastern Block
nations, against legislation to protect women from all forms of abuse, stating
that this resolution would impose Western values on a society that has long
held historical traditions, some of which may breach the proposed legislation.
They voted for the amendment of a resolution for the protection of
refugees. They argued against a resolution to abolish the death penalty,
voted to eradicate piracy, voted against capping population growth at two
children per family, and against economic sanctions on Russia for its
annexation of the Ukraine.
Forest Hill College is proud that the weekend gave the students a terrific opportunity to meet like-minded students, to debate ideas, to learn about global politics, as well as the intricacies of United Nations debates. As James put it, “It is something I will always remember.” Forest Hill College would like to warmly thank Rotary for organising the event, and the Rotary Club of Forest Hill for sponsoring our team.”

Division Cross Country
The Division Cross Country was held this Friday and when our Principals visited the course they were inundated with students who had placed extremely well in their events. Although the full list of results will come in to next weeks Blog, we can tell you that Anna C won her event, Holly T came second in her event, Kuda D placed second, Mitch M came fourth and many FHC student placed top 10 and top 20 in their races.
VCE Arts Excursion
Unit 3 Art, Media and Visual Communication Design students traveled into the city to see the VCE 'Season of Excellence'. Every year 'Season of Excellence' presents the top student work from around Victoria in the fields of design, art, technology, multimedia and the cinematic. Our students had the opportunity to view both the development folios and the final works for each, this has given our students a important visual example of what lies ahead in Unit 4.
While it was at times overwhelming to see just how much work goes into these master pieces our students came back enthusiastic, motivated and inspired. Our students now have an even clearer understanding of how they to can achieve outstanding academic success.
Global Leaders Convention
On Thursday this week a number of Forest Hill College Impact leaders joined other school leaders for the Global Leaders Convention at the Melbourne Convention Centre. The students worked through global issues and discussed how as young leaders in their communities they can make a difference to world politics.
