Dear all, welcome to week 4 Term 2.
This week the
College engaged the services of a designer to construct plans for the Year 7
Inquiry Based Learning Centre, The Later Years Study Centre and Wellbeing
Centre. We are very confident that she will be presenting some exciting and
contemporary plans that will ensure Forest Hill College is the best equipped
secondary school in the area to deliver an outstanding, well rounded and
academic education. These plans are expected to be completed by August. We are
planning that all spaces will be completed and in operation during 2015.
Every week I
marvel at the range of opportunities to be involved in a wide range of
activities at Forest Hill College. As I glanced across Compass yesterday I
reflected that students can make a lot out of their week at our school. We have
competed in inter school sport, continued rehearsals for the College production
( that was written by our students I might add) , arranged travel to Central Australia
in Term 2 and participated in study skill development programs. You could book an appointment
as a Year 12 student with our Careers Leader to finalise career pathways,
attend the Impact Trivia Night, perform at Hamer Hall and enter a Whitehorse
Photography contest.
The beauty of
Compass is that all parents get access to this information. I encourage you to
discuss with your child what opportunities they are making for themselves at
the College. School days don’t last forever, and students often lament on
reflection, that they could have made more of the opportunities for them at
school. As a parent, with daily access to the College newsfeed, don’t let your
child let these great days at school drift past them. Inspire them to get
involved and extend themselves.
I would like to
take this opportunity to congratulate Burwood Heights Primary School Principal,
Esther Wood, on her nomination for Principal of the Year 2014. Over many years
Esther has done a great job leading her school and we wish her all the best for
the award, being presented tonight. As the new Principal of Forest Hill College
I look forward to learning from and working with Esther in the coming years.
Waverley Junior Girls Netball
The Waverley Squad for 2014 has been selected. The list of girls who successfully made the team will be posted in the gym at lunchtime on Thursday. Congratulations to all girls who attended tryouts. The coaching group were very impressed by the enthusiasm, organisation and skill level of all girls who attended. Unfortunately numbers on the team were limited and as a result a number of girls have missed out for this year’s competition. These girls should still take part in interschool competition at their respective year levels, and are highly encouraged to do so considering the quality of the tryouts.
Senior Soccer
The Forest Hill senior boys soccer team took part in the annual regional soccer championship held at Darebin International Sports Centre on Thursday. They faced tough opposition in their first round, playing an impressive East Doncaster SC team. Both teams were locked at 0-0 for most of the first half, with Pouya A the closest to opening the scoring for FHC, his one-on-one shot saved by the East Doncaster goal keeper. East Doncaster then used the wind to their advantage and scored two goals within the space of 5 minutes to take the game 2-0. The boys played Box Hill SC in their second game in another tight affair. FHC central midfield pair of Muhammad and Kuda controlled most of the game play which led to an abundance of opportunities for FHC. Kuda saw his impressive free kick hit the crossbar. FHC was made to pay for their misses, and against the run of play Box Hill pinched the only goal of the game, with the final score at 1-0. The final game of the day saw FHC play Blackburn SC. Both teams had their chances, but it was Haari L who opened the scoring for FHC. However, after some stout defending and spectacular saves from Yash, Blackburn were able to break through and score the equalizer, final score 1-1. The FHC senior soccer team showed real leadership and should be congratulated on their efforts.

Forest Hill College Production
This year Forest Hill College are lucky enough to have two very talented
Year 11 students writing and directing our annual school production.
Set in a high school the story follows Gwen Powers who is an intelligent and determined high achiever who spends more time on her studies than her social life. She is striving to get votes from the various cliques within the school to become School President at Park Mountain High’s 2014 election. Forced to blackmail the cliques to ensure they vote for her, will she win?
With over 50 students involved, come and see this excellent production the students have been rehearsing since the beginning of the year.
Performances are being held in the Kel Watson Theatre at Forest Hill College and will commence on Wednesday the 4th, Thursday the 5th and Friday the 6th of June 2014 at 7:30pm.
Tickets are $5 and will be on sale from Friday 16 May 2014 through Try Booking-http://trybooking.com/EYJC.
