FOREST HILL COLLEGE students will benefit from
improved classrooms after the school was today given $2.1 million for a revamp.
Premier Denis Napthine paid a visit to Forest Hill College to announce
the windfall, which will be used to create a 21st Century Learning
Space for Middle Years students, a dedicated Year 7 Inquiry Based Learning
Centre and complete the VCE Learning Centre.
Dr Napthine was joined at the school by Education Minister Martin Dixon
and Forest Hill state Liberal MP Neil Angus. Mr Dixon said .“With its strong
international engagement and digital learning program, Forest Hill College is
leading the way in offering the most innovative and modern teaching methods and
that the school’s reputation as a secondary education provider would be further
enhanced by the upgrade.”
Principal David Rogers said the school, which has 550 students, was
thrilled with the news. “We’re really overwhelmed and can now complete the Year
7 Inquiry Based Learning Centre and other projects, such as a new VCE Study Centre and a Wellbeing Centre we have been working on
developing over recent years,” Mr Rogers said. "It will set us apart from other schools in our quest to continue enhancing student achievement."
Dr Napthine said: “I know the school has wonderful plans for this
funding”. The money will be included in the 2014-15 State Budget and will
become available to the college on July 1.

The new date for the Forest Hill College Athletics Carnival is Friday 23 May.
In addition, the new date for Division Cross Country is Friday 9 May.
Round 2 For Debaters
“On Thursday night the Forest Hill Debating team competed in round two of the Debater’s Association of Victoria inter-school debating championships at Wesley College. Unfortunately the school that was up against our A Grade Team forfeited so our extremely well prepared A Grade Team (Years 11-12) was unable to debate this round. They will receive full points and will remain at the top of the ladder thanks to their excellent performance in round one.
Our C Grade team (Years 9-10), which consisted of Noah d., Jesse d., and Ayen G. performed very well receiving high points for their manner, but lost the round by only two points. Our D Grade (Years 8-9) team – Tea D., Daniel S., and Alysha R. - did a very good job as it was their first time debating, but they too lost this round by four points. Round 3 will take place on May 29.

Forest Hill College Working Bee
On Wednesday 16 April we ran a working bee to catch up on some much needed gardening and general maintenance of the College Facilities. The enthusiastic workers completed mulching down the driveway and weeding the front gardens and northern courtyard. Special thanks to Simone H, Tayla H, Nicola M, Amy R and Rae Hynes for all your efforts and hard work during the day.
Year 7 Science
During Year 7 Science class this week students conducted experiments separating iron filings, saw dust, sand and salt. The students achieved great success in these sessions and learnt some key skills that will assist them in later years as they enter VCE Chemistry classes.
