Dear all, welcome to week 10 Term 1.

As another Term closes we should always reflect on the progress we have made. Parent Teacher Interviews are a vehicle for doing this and they were a great success for those in attendance. I would like to take the time to congratulate the families who did make the effort to meet with the teachers of their children. The interviews foster very constructive partnerships between staff and families and research indicates this is important in your child’s education.
Our staff are pleased to be implementing the Effective Learning Behaviors into their teaching and learning and providing feedback on them at Parent Teacher Interviews. These behaviors are a way of setting high EXPECTATIONS and supporting ACHIEVEMENT. They define a good learner. Every student should know their Grade Point Average and should be able to articulate it when I ask them. They should also be very aware of the areas they can improve and have set goals for next term on how to improve.
Whilst we SUPPORT all learners in the College, there is no place for students who are happy with an ACHIEVEMENT of less than their personal best. We want students to strive to do their best in everything they do.
For those who did not make it to the interviews, I look forward to seeing you at the next Parent Teacher Interviews on Tuesday 2 September . You may note I have also put this date in the calendar dates section of the Blog. This is because of the value I place on them. Even if your child has received a fantastic report, and you are very happy with their progress I urge you to attend. There are always areas for improvement.

Forest Hill College Working Bee
On Wednesday 16 April between 10am - 2pm we are running a working bee at Forest Hill College. This is a great opportunity over the Term 1 Holidays to catch up on some much needed gardening and general maintenance of the College facilities. We would really appreciate anyone willing to assist. Lunch will be provided, if you are willing to assist, please contact Nick Sorich - Facilities Manager N.Sorich@fhc.vic.edu.au or call 9814 9454 and leave a message.

Impact Bake Sale

Last Friday IMPACT held their first bake sale for the year. Lots of yummy treats were on offer, such as chocolate brownies, jelly slice, cupcakes, lemon slice and lots more. The students had prepared by baking the night before and setting up the stand for the lunchtime sale. Students from all year levels and staff attended and purchased themselves a lunchtime sweet snack to the end the week. Everyone cooperated in the cleaning up and we are excited to announce that we raised over $300. Thank you to everyone that contributed. Next term IMPACT will be finalising the charities that raised funds will go to this year.

Peer Support
On Wednesday, the Year 7's had their last Peer Support session with their Year 10 leaders. To celebrate the end of a great term and their successful transition into high school life, the afternoon was spent on some fun activities in the Gym.

Jaime, Kaitlyn, Chloe and Jess acted as MC's and ran a challenging trivia competition. The Year 7 students worked in their groups with the support of the Year 10 leaders to compete in two rounds; one of general knowledge and one of subject knowledge based on content they have learned over the course of Term 1. The winners of the trivia round were the group who called themselves “#selfie”.

The second part of the session was dedicated to a dance-off and some true skill was demonstrated. Each group had to choreograph a routine set to Beyonce’s “Single Ladies”. Honourable mentions go to Taban of 7C for his twerk skills and Zac of 7B for his sassy Beyonce-style moves. The winners of that round and the whole competition were the aptly named “The Undefeatables”.

Congratulations to all Year 7's for thriving in their first term at Forest Hill College and thanks to the Peer Support leaders for their hard work and dedication.

EMR Swimming

On Monday this week the Eastern Region swimming carnival was held at MSAC. There was only 1 student participating in it for FHC this year, and what a performance it was!!! Yuri, from Year 10 swam in four events. These were the 50m breaststroke, 100m butterfly, 50m butterfly and the 100m freestyle. By the time he had finished these events, he was too tired to compete in his 50m freestyle event. He results were outstanding. He ended up with 2nd in the 100m butterfly, 2nd in the 50m butterfly and 3rd in the 100m freestyle, a truly inspiring performance. Well done Yuri on a fantastic effort against some excellent competition.
