Dear all,
welcome to Week 5 of Another GREAT Week
Annual Presentation Evening for Years 10 to 12
On Thursday 28 November 2013 we will celebrate our Annual Presentation Evening for Years 10 to 12.
Whilst it is not possible to acknowledge the contribution of every child in the school on the night, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all students/families for the contribution they make to ensuring that Forest Hill College is a fantastic place for students to grow and learn.
At the beginning of next week, families of students (years 10 to 12) that are being recognised at Presentation Evening will receive a letter in the mail. The letter will outline the process for obtaining tickets to the event. Due to the large number of students that are being recognised on the night, tickets are limited.
On the night we will be recognising and rewarding the achievements of a large number of students in the following categories:
Curriculum Program Awards
Extra Curricular Awards
Specialist Extra Curricular Awards
Special Awards
For more information on any of the awards above please see the attachment provided on your Compass News Feed.
"A Lunch in the Life"
Below is a montage of photos taken at lunch on Thursday this week. Pictured is the diversity of our students and what they like to do and have access to at lunchtimes. You can see students painting a mural, year 12 students preparing for an exam in the Study Centre, Chess in "The Shack", reading in The Library, sport outside, and hanging out with friends talking and eating.

Staff Performance Review Process
Forest Hill College staff are all part of a collegiate team. This team is headed up by a Leadership Team member, who is responsible for overseeing their team member's performance review process annually.
We are currently in a phase of monitoring the evidence staff are producing to support their development this year. Our Leadership Team have very high standards this year of the quality of evidence they expect from staff. This is something we have been building on for a number of years now.
Our main strategic expectation of our staff is that they are:
- documenting their curriculum and providing digital access to it.
- developing highly effective relationships in their classrooms.
- differentiating the learning experience to optimally challenge and engage all students in their classrooms.
On Wednesday this week, staff worked in their collegiate teams ( pictured above) to continue gathering evidence to demonstrate how they have progressed towards our strategic targets for 2013.
Malthouse Theatre Visit
On Thursday this week the Year 10 Drama class attended the
Malthouse Theatre to perform a script they have been working on during this
term. The script entitled 'Tame' tackles the issue of climate change and
the students spent the term workshopping the script and other group-devised
ideas around the themes before settling on their chosen scenes.
On the day the students performed in the morning with three
schools from varying contexts who all worked on the same script. In the
afternoon they had the privilege of watching the professional actors from the
Malthouse perform their interpretation of the script, finishing the day with a Q&A.
As always our students were a delight to take out and their
performances were very well received by both the Malthouse theatre and the
other schools.
Well done Year 10 Drama!
Tasmania Camp
From Monday 28 October until Friday 1
of November 2013, 62 brave year 8 and 9 students and 6 braver staff made the trek to
Tasmania.
We slept the first night on the seas as we experienced the
Spirit of Tasmania, before rising early on Tuesday morning to start exploring
the wonderful state.
The group loaded into a 70-seater bus driven by our capable
tour guide Mike. We managed to squeeze so much into the week and got a thorough
understanding of the various sites and sounds of Tassie, pregnant with a rich
history.
We ventured to the peak of Mt. Wellington, visited the
Tessellated Pavement, spent a day at the historical Port Arthur. We made the
most of a Cadbury factory tour (and the cost-price chocolate in the gift shop
afterwards), had a hit at mini-golf, walked the 50m high suspended bridges
through one of the world’s 2 most protected forest lands. Fed some of
Australia’s inimitable wildlife at the Doo Zoo, and flew back home by 7:30pm on
Friday.
We packed so much into an exceptional week, great
friendships were formed and fostered between the students and the staff over
packets of lollies and lots of laughs.
A very successful camp, a big thanks to Mrs. Axiotis for
leading the charge. –
I hope to one day go again!

Wellbeing Day
The theme for this year’s wellbeing day activities was CHOOSE WISELY
…. CHOOSE TO GROW.
Being faced with decisions and choosing what to do, or to say, has an
enormous impact on our wellbeing.
Students were challenged to think about; what they post on facebook,
gossiping and relationships, making wise decisions when at parties and staying
up all night playing video games.
Students enjoyed the 16m2 Jungle maze and were challenged to find their way out of it.

Staff participated in the event and chose to display a random act of
kindness to a fellow colleagues. This was a great way for staff to stop and
think about how they could positively impact the day of a colleague. Staff also
enjoyed a morning tea together.
Au Revoir `A La Classe De Francais L'annee 10!
Today we celebrated one of the last days of French in our
Year 10 class by indulging in a feast of authentic French foods. Croissants, pains au chocolat, éclairs,
baguettes, cheeses, condiments, mini-toasts and Nutella were enjoyed by the
students, many of whom have been taking French for four years.
It was a fun occasion enjoyed by all, and I will miss
teaching this wonderful group of ‘francophiles!’ Bonne chance tout le monde!
Year 8 Girls Cricket Finals
The Year 7 & 8 Girls had great success this term in the
Cricket Round Robins against other schools. Firstly they won the Year 8 Girls’
District competition at Elgar Park against seven other schools. This week on
Wednesday 6 November, they progressed through to the Eastern
Metropolitan Region finals where they won two games out of four, and placed
fifth overall. The growth in their skills and thinking strategies was
commendable and we look forward to an even more successful year in Cricket next
year. Well done girls to your outstanding sporting qualities and keen
participation. Thanks go to Joshua N for his dedicated coaching and
training sessions and to Ms Treloar for managing the team and driving us
there.
