Dear all,
what a GREAT week it was.
We began the week drenched in brilliant Spring sunshine. Students enjoyed the warmer weather and were out playing games on ovals, 4 square courts and socialising well with each other around our outdoor furniture.
Consider Education when you vote this week. As principal of our College I encourage you to compare the education policies of the various parties when making a decision on Saturday.
Saturday’s decision is critical to the future of education in Australia. The Better Schools funding plans, if fully implemented are over 6 years, not 4 years, with the majority of the funding applied in the 5th and 6th years. Is the party that you vote for advocating for increased public school funding over the next 6 years?
Australian Maths Competition Results
The Maths program at Forest Hill College continues to produce some very good results. In the recent Australian Maths Competition, a number of our students did very well. Congratulations to Yiren, who achieved a High Distinction in the Australian Maths Competition,
Congratulations to the following students who achieved Distinctions in the Australian Maths Competition.
Anthony, Haitao, Colin, Scott and Zoe.

World Maths Games Day Year 7
Monday saw a group of 8 Year 7 students head off to Overnewton College in the Western suburbs to participate in the Year 7 World Maths Games Day. The students participated in a number of Maths based challenges and thoroughly enjoyed the day. We await their results with confidence, as the quality of the STEM Maths program is very high and the students confidence in themselves pleasingly strong. Below are two reports from students on the day.
Trivia Night
A brilliant night of entertainment was had at our annual trivia night this Tuesday, held in B6. The 6 student teams had a fantastic time. Thanks to Ms Fraser for organising the event, and to Mr Heaton, Ms Hynes, Mr Cutler, Ms O'Neil, Ms Seymour, Ben Stephenson and Ms Gell.

District Athletics Carnival
On Wednesday this week our District Aths team made its way to the Doncaster Athletics Track to compete. There were some fabulous performances.

Parent Teacher Night
On Thursday this week we held our Term 3 round of Parent Teacher Interviews. This past week we have had 752 parent logins through Compass indicating that we have an increased amount of people using Compass. This would we imagine be largely due to the need to book Parent Teacher Interviews on Compass.
Parent Teacher Interviews are a very important source of feedback to support student learning. The quality of conversations and the amount of parents attending the interviews was very pleasing.
College Magazine Cover Competition
All entries are now in and on display. The judging panel is meeting to assess the merits of each entry. At next Tuesday's full College Assembly, Ms Cook will be announcing the winners. The prize, in the event that you had forgotten is an Ipad. Good luck to all entrants.

South Street Music Competition
On Tuesday this week our first group performed at Sth Street in Ballarat. Ms Morrow and Ms Zabukosek accompanied our percussion ensemble to Her Majesty's Theatre in Ballarat and watched them perform. They received the highly prestigious rating of a "high commendation". On Wednesday following an early morning rehearsal our brass ensemble made their way up to the competition. They performed brilliantly and narrowly missed a place with a fantastic score of 85%.

When we got there I was a bit
intimidated by the other schools but after we started it was fun
but hard. The day was well planned out
and if I had to do this again I would definitely take
the opportunity. I didn't really know
any of the other schools so it was good to mingle with the students from the
other schools. We talked a lot to students from other schools and hung out
with them at the breaks. I was in team 1 with Zoe H , Alex
C and Chloe T and we did better then we
thought we would do. We ended up coming 6th out of 42 teams so we where pretty
happy with our result.

The
hardest part of the day was probably the problem solving or the relay. The
questions were really hard and I'm pretty sure we got a few wrong.
My favorite activity of the day was the origami. It was quite a fun thing to do
and we got lots of points doing it.
But
my overall favorite thing was meeting other people from other schools. It was
nice getting to know what their names were and where they were from.
