Celebrating Jaimee Lee

Deaf year 12 student Jaimilee A was recognised for her academic achievements and awarded a Premier’s VCE Award this month.
The 18-year-old from Forest Hill College achieved a perfect score of 50 in Auslan (the sign language of the Australian deaf community), last year.Premier Denis Napthine presented 310 awards to students who received a study score of 46 or higher in at least five subjects.Dr Napthine called the students “an inspiration to their peers, schools and communities”.
Forest Hill College hosts the Victorian Education Department’s eastern region deaf facility. Students at the facility are provided with an interpreter or an aide allowing them study any subject at the school
Jaimilee grew up in Queensland, but moved to Victoria at 16 to “get better access to [deaf] education”
For the past two years she has lived on her own and put herself through secondary school. “I had to live by myself and had some challenges. But I managed to study well and as a result I became a more independent woman,’’ she said.Jaimilee has used Auslan since she was very young as her mother is also deaf.When she finishes school, Ms Armstrong said she hopes to pursue a career in accounting

Reports

Staff have been working very hard following our exam period, to correct work and write reports. We ask parents to pay close attention to the feedback our staff have provided in these reports.
Reports for the first time will be provided through Compass. 

Year 9 Health Program

In class on Tuesday our Year 9 students did a lot of work on safe behaviors at parties. Our Health Nurse, Christina took the students through first aid, safe practices for travelling to and from events and the dangers of using illegal substances.

Cross Country- State Finals for Holly T




On Tuesday of this week, a number of our students took part in the District Cross Country event in Yarra Glen. Holly T of Year 7 came second and is now off to the State Finals.
Anna came 16th, Kuda 18th, Tiegan 35th, Shannon 47th and Dom 52nd. A great effort in a high quality field of 80.

Japanese Visit

On Wednesday we had a visit from the Japanese head of the International Student Program, Yasu. He was visiting our Japanese students and having a look our College.

Tribe Assemblies

On Friday our student leaders led Tribe Assemblies, where the Performing Arts Carnival was introduced to the students. The event is in term 3, and like last year, each tribe will be producing a song, a dance and a play. Bonus points are allocated to Tribes able to include staff in any of their performances.

Soccer

On Thursday we had our Year 8 students head off to play Soccer at Darebin. Our boys had a 6-0 win and our girls also achieved some great success. Well done to all of the players and their coaches. Recently we have had some elite soccer coaching from Heidelberg Soccer Club working with our Soccer Teams and within our Developing Sports Leaders Program.

Legally Blonde

On Friday night another group of Theatre buffs enjoyed the musical "Legally Blonde". Staff, students and parents are enjoying these experiences very much.
