This week, as always, plenty was happening at the College.
Tuesday was Parent Teacher Student Interviews. This is the first formal indication of your child's progress and we were pleased to see many parents taking the opportunity to discuss with our teaching staff, strategies for improvement, reflections on great efforts and the development of effective relationships between our staff and our parents. Staff are available to be emailed about work. Compass and Moodle are good vehicles for developing a clear understanding of what all children are doing in class at school.
On Wednesday our VCE Art students went to the NGV. They saw the Rally exhibition.
It was a fantastic day and the students gained so much from the day.

We removed a large tree from the Central Courtyard on Wednesday that was posing a threat to the safety of our community. Sadly we have now removed 5 trees from these courtyards in the last 12 months. We place student and staff safety above all else, and the trees had become a hazard. They were too big for an internal school courtyard. We have been replacing these trees with smaller indigenous shrubs, plants and trees that are appropriate for a school setting. We believe that the trees that remain in these courtyards are safe, following advice for a recent tree audit, prepared by an arborist.
College Council met on Wednesday evening and we looked at a camps plan, our School Level Report and other Governance related issues that occur as a routine at all Council meetings. We have strong interest in setting a camps agenda that is documented and planned as a cycle over 5 years. This year we see the re introduction of a Tasmania Tour for Year 8 and 9 students. There are 60 places available and already all spots are taken and a waiting list exists.
In year 11 Media, Takumi K is one of 10
students chosen from across the state to take part in week long Media workshop
with industry professionals. The workshop is called 'Hothouse 2013' and is
happening at the Australia Centre for the Moving Image during the 2nd week of
the school holidays.
>> If you see Takumi around the school, please join us in congratulating him! Check out the link below to

Thursday marks the end of Term 1. The break i a great opportunity to restore some work life balance for everyone. It is a wonderful opportunity for VCE students to do some hard yards and set up the rest of this year. It is important they also continue with active leisure time to balance out the work they are doing.
We have 2 staff ending up at FHC this Term.
Jen Brown has filled an Art position for us very well in the last year. She has forged many strong relationships with staff and students and contributed broadly to our programsin that time. She will be missed by her students and we thank her for her professionalism in the short time she has been at the College.
Nerida Longthorp has had a distinguished career at the College. She has been instrumental in the College Debating program for many years. She has developed many fine speakers and assisted them to win numerous debating accolades. Nerida has been a key component of our English team, contributing across all year levels. She has been a leader of curriculum development within the English Domain. Nerida has also taken on a range of extra curricular activities. She has performed in the Performing Arts Carnival, Screamfest and many other Tribe events. We thank her on behalf of all members of our community for the lives she has enriched as a teacher at FHC.
Thanks to everyone in our community for making this such a great Term. We especially hope that all new students and their families have had a wonderful start to their time at FHC
Have a lovely Easter!
