welcome to week 4.
Some key dates for all parents to be aware of next week
Rhythm Nation/ Performing Arts Carnival Wednesday 15 August
Parent Uniform Forum 6:30pm Thursday 16 August.
Please note that due to statewide industrial action on Wednesday 5 September, Parent/ Teacher/Student interviews have been moved to Thursday 6 September.
We began the week with the wonderful news that our student leadership program had won the
Rehearsals for the Performing Arts Carnival continued throughout the week, as all tribes began gearing up for next weeks event. All bias put aside, my sources tell me that although all Tribes are doing great work, it is Blue ( of course) that are setting the standards. We are all looking forward to this event next week. Vive Le Blue!!!
On Tuesday evening we celebrated the fabulous talents of our music program with our Winter Concert. There was a wonderful array of talent on show, and the audience thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Many students had been rehearsing hard with their instrumental teachers, and as always it was all hands on deck in the Music department to make the evening a stunning success. Well done to all.
Wednesday was a busy day for wellbeing programs.
22 Year 8 and 10 boys continued with the Martial Arts
program. The session focussed on courage- to exercise self control, to stand
against peer pressure and to think through decisions.
On Thursday we intended to practise our evacuation drill. Unfortunately the wind and rain meant this has to be delayed until another time.
This week we sent home an invitation to all parents to our Parent Uniform Forum on Thursdasy 16 August
Over a period of
time students and staff have been working together to discuss ways we can
improve the way students wear their uniforms in line with
expectations of our community. We want to work closely with our parent
community on this important issue. So that we have representation from all
members of our community, we would like to invite parents and guardians to a one
hour meeting to discuss the implementation of current uniform policy.
This is not a
meeting to review the College uniform. Rather it is an opportunity to influence
future directions in relation to the way our students wear their uniform.
We have worked consistently with students to continue improving the way they
wear their uniform. We have worked closely with the students to ensure they feel
an ownership of our uniform policy.
On the pages
following this letter, you will see a draft document that has been developed
with students and staff. This is only a draft document and will
be called our “Uniform and appearance expectations” and is yet to be
presented to Council.
Following this
consultation with our parents/ guardians, we will be presenting a “Uniform
and appearance expectations” policy to College Council for ratification and
implementation for 2013.
If you are
interested in influencing this document, I look forward to seeing you on 16
August at 6:30pm in H Block.
