Another GREAT Week Term 3 Week 1

Welcome back to term 3. We hope everyone had a fantastic break and are all refreshed and ready for term 3.During the break we had the Year 8 and 10 locker bays and toilets refurbished. The walls, floors and ceilings were all painted and noticeboards have been put up in each locker bay.The Later Years Study Centre has also been painted, courtesy of the fund raising students did through the Basketball Marathon.

Rhythm Nation rehearsals began this week.
On Wednesday 15 August, all students will have the traditional curriculum suspended for the day, as we do for our College Athletics and swimming Carnivals, and they will perform in the Tribe Performing Arts competition, Rhythm Nation .

During Growth we had some fantastic activities taking place. Our Year 8 groups have been planning their ideal learning space. They have been researching learning styles and furniture to complement learning. The Year 9 students have been planning their Duke of Ed, World Trip and their City experience. They have 5 visits to the City this term and an inquiry based project on multiculturalism to complete in teams. They are also participating in community service later this term.

The Year 10 Phys Ed program has offered up some fabulous excursions and incursions for term 3. All students will be taking part in a Taekwondo experience later in term 3. The students are also getting the opportunity to go 10 Pin Bowling, Rock-climbing, Boxing Training and to a local gym for fitness training.

All students had an extended Home Group this Thursday to complete their own report reflections. They were given access to their reports and provided with the template you will see in the report when you get them next week, that facilitates personal reflections on their semester 1 performance and looks towards developing goals for continued improvement in semester 2. If any student was absent on the day of the reflections, a blank reflection sheet will appear in their report, and this can be done with you at home. we would encourage all parents to discuss and reflect on their child's reports.

The presentation ‘Choices’ was held this THURSDAY  for some students in Years 9 and 10. This session is on positive decision making and consequences that come from making good and poor decsions. It was well attended and run by Collingwood footballer Dane Swan and boxer Sam Soliman. It was a great success.

This Friday Years 7, 8 and Pre VCE students saw Mana. This is a live presentation by the story teller Mana that focusses on promoting multi culturalism and understanding each other's differences. His story is performed through dance and the spoken word.

Also on Friday our Year 12 Business Management students went on excursion to Australia Post and Yakult to investigate these businesses' operating systems. They had an interesting bus trip, as to their great surprise, when climbing on board the bus, the driver was none other than Jenny Cook, our College Principal. Jenny volunteered to drive the bus as she is one of our staff members with an articulated bus licence.

Important Evening for Parents of students in Years 9 and 10

The Year 9 and 10 Course Information Evening will be held on Wednesday 1 August from 6:30 pm in the Science Block. The purpose of this event is to:
  • understand the course requirements for students moving into Year 10 and Year 11 at Forest Hill College;
  • understand the course selection process for students moving into Year 10 and 11; and
  • speak directly with staff  about the subjects being offered and the pathways that they lead to.
Selecting a later years course is a challenging and at times confusing experience. To eliminate these concerns, we have established this event. We encourage all parents and students to attend. Selecting the course that suits each child requires an individual focus and clear, informed decision making. We look forward to seeing you there.
