Week 6 - A Week Between Weeks

Week 5 saw the conclusion of Science Week activities with Year 9 and Year 10 students showcasing their abilities, assisting Year 7 students to carry out various chemistry experiments. At lunch the Year 7 Science Competition was judged - a series of videos produced by Year 7 students that illustrated a scientific concept.

This week began with a group of Year 10 students undertaking the Reducing Road Traffic Trauma Program run the Metropolitan Fire Brigade - a confronting and highly enriching experience.

Course and pathways counselling have continued throughout the week. There has been very positive feedback received from parents about this process.

On Tuesday progress in our 1-to-1 program was gauged, with direction for 2011 and beyond set.

The Domain Leaders met and discussed the implication of mobile devices in 2012 and the book list.

On Wednesday a number of ISP students attended a Government House reception. The students are invited to attend as a celebration. A group of year 7 students had lunch with Jenny and shared their thoughts about learning at Forest Hill and insights into the year at a new school.

During the staff meeting an update on mobile devices for 2012 was given. Staff were given an outline of what the National Secondary School Computer Funding (NSSCF) means for FHC and the choices that will be made over the coming weeks to implement the program. This was followed by a collaborative session looking at ways to update our current code of conduct into a relevant document, that reflects DEECD policy and our restorative practice principles. During the evening College Council met and ... the debaters won! A narrow victory over Pascoe Vale Girls Secondary College - moving on to the next state final.

During Thursday morning Year 11 Physical Education students ran classes for Year 8 and 9 Physical Education. In the afternoon 9B continued their intergenerational journey. After school the vital work of the Working Groups continued with much enthusiasm.

Friday morning began with a BBQ breakfast with the student captains and the principals - all cooked by a Cook. The last Peer Support Session, run by Year 10s for the Year 7s, was held during period 3. This too involved a BBQ. During lunch the intergenerational choir continued their experience with Strathdon residents and Parkmore Primary School

Week 7 is a Literacy and Numeracy week, another chance for students to showcase their talents and interests.
