Dear all, welcome to week 5 Term 3.
This week our Year 10 students have been involved in course counselling interviews. There have been many parents attending the interviews with their children, which we have been thrilled about. The students seem very engaged in the choices they are making and this enthusiasm is something we have been working to cultivate. The engaging elective subjects, aimed at preparing students for VCE, as well as the ability to select an early start VCE, has created a really aspirational tone among our students. Students are very aware of the importance of a good GPA to mount a strong case for taking on an early start VCE. Year 9 interviews will be conducted next week.
Staff have also been very busy generating mid semester reports, as a pre-cursor to Parent Teacher Student Interviews on Tuesday 2 September. GPA data will be again discussed and goals will be established by students to finish this year off on a very positive note.
This week the College has been busy preparing for the International Football Program Athlete Evaluation and Assessment day on Monday 18 August. Simon Colossimo, ex Socceroo and Melbourne Heart Captain will be the main coach for the evaluation, and we are expecting around 40 athletes to attend.
Our Year 12 English students enjoyed a wonderful performance of the Life of Galileo on Thursday in our Theatre. this is one of the texts they are studying and I am sure it brought enhanced meaning to the text for the students, putting them in an even better place to achieve success in their exam later this year.
Our Year 9 students attended the City centre this week, exploring themes within their project as part of their "City Experience". Students learn more about working with each other and an enquiry based approach to their learning through this experience.

Winter Music Concert 2014
On Tuesday 5 August 2014, our Instrumental Music students staged the Winter Concert in the College Theatre which was very well attended and enjoyed by all. The program featured large ensembles including the Junior Band, Concert Band, Stage Band, Jazz Rock Band, Percussion Ensemble, and African Drumming Ensemble. Also featured on the evening were a brass duo and a lovely piano solo. At the conclusion of the concert we were very fortunate to be treated to a scrumptious supper prepared by our hospitality students. The wonderful musical sounds and diverse styles heard on the evening and the delicious supper were the result of much hard work over the past months by the students and their teachers. Congratulations and many thanks to all students and staff involved!

Australian Mathematics Competition 2014
Last
Thursday 7 August 2014, about 60 enthusiastic students across Year 7 – 12
participated in a 75 minutes long Australian Mathematics Competition sponsored
by the Commonwealth Bank. This competition consists of 25 multiple-choice
problems and five questions requiring a number answer. The problems are very
easy at the start of the paper and become progressively more difficult until
the end when they are challenging to the most gifted students. Students of all
standards will find a point of challenge. Schools will receive students’
results and statistical analysis of individual student achievement by topic in
September.
