Final Week of School, Class of 2013- Principals Address to the class of 2013.
"Your journeys with us may have begun
at various points, but we all gather here today to acknowledge the culmination
of 13 years of schooling. For some this has represented a very pleasant and
smooth experience. For most there have been hurdles, mountains, defining
moments, times of extreme sadness and times of great exhilaration.
No matter what you go on to do,
today I have the privilege of representing our College in saying thank you for
the contribution you have made to our school community
.
I ask you to reflect on how key
staff over the years have made a positive impact on you. Seek those staff out
and acknowledge their efforts.
I would like to remind you that the
way you will be remembered is often on based on how you exit. Congratulations on the outstanding way you have conducted yourselves this week. You have done it with absolute dignity and class. The College that has been such a large part of your lives is very proud of you. You have maintained our tradition of celebrating our Year 12 students as a whole College rather than despairing at poor and disruptive behavior that surrounds the "muck up day" concept. "Muck up day" does not exist at Forest Hill College.
It is critical for all of us to be wary of the
pressure we inadvertently can place on you as you move through a
stressful time. I would like to remind you that you are aiming for a personal
best rather than competing with others. Our focus is to reward you for the effort you put
in, helping you put the exams in the right perspective. These are very important things for us
as supportive adults around you to remember.
Your ATAR score does not define who you are as a
person. The way you go about life, the effort you put into your goals and
dreams and how you build strong relationships with people are what defines who
you are. Whilst I am not trying to diminish the ATAR score, I am trying to put
in perspective for you. If you achieve what you want, great, the doors are open
for you to progress to the next phase of your life. If you do not achieve the
ATAR you want or need, persist. The world is full of people who fall short at
times in their life but through persistence, self belief and hard work,
eventually achieve their life goals.
We are always here to support you and enjoy it
when you visit. We look forward to and open the doors to, all of you to do that
in the future.
Today we give you a certificate
acknowledging your love of learning and we sincerely hope you continue to seek
learning as you continue to grow as a young adult. Through time, we have learnt
that learning is the key to unlocking a happy and successful life, one that fulfills your potential and makes you a powerful contributor to your community.
The certificate also represents the
incredible resilience you have shown over 13 years. I am sure there were many
times when the easy option was to stay at home, to not complete that homework,
to not accept the challenge that school throws at you. If nothing else, you
have proved to yourself you can set a long term goal and do the work that is
required to achieve it. I said it at the last assembly, and I say it again
today. The only place where success comes before work is in the dictionary.
This certificate also shows you can
build relationships with people and make friends. It shows you can resolve
disputes and keep moving forwards.
This certificate is more than a
piece of paper, it is a symbol of the wonderful young person you are.
Whatever the outcome over the exam
period we are proud of you, we support you, you inspire us to be better
teachers every day.
All the best, take an optimistic view forwards with you and look after yourselves."

North Eastern Metropolitan Region Athletics- Small School, Big Opportunities, Big Dreams, Big Achievement
On Monday this week, Mr Cutler
took 5 students to the EMR Athletics held at Knox Athletics Track. With such a
small team going, we were expecting to hopefully come home with a medal or two.
However, we far exceeded our expectations, where we were good enough to bring
home no less than 6 medals in total. Within this, we also have two students
heading off to the state athletics next week. It was a cold and rainy day, but
the action on the track was HOT with Sam (100m sprint), and Holly
(1500m run) both finishing first in their events. Sam then went onto the shot put
where she again finished in first place. Anna snagged a second place in
her 100m race and Holly again competed hard in her long jump and high
jump to finish a respectable third in both these events. Honourable mentions
also have to go to Emma who finished 5th in her long jump and
Henny who finished fourth in her javelin. Overall, a fantastic day for FHC,
and we wish Sam and Holly all the best for their events in the state
competition next week.

VET Awards- Small School, Big Opportunities, Big Dreams, Big Achievement
Congratulations to both Mina and Pallavi for their nominations for VET awards this year. On Tuesday night Thea Kamvissis and Grace Broadbent attended the awards ceremony and we are excited to announce that Pallavi was the winner. VET offers students wonderful opportunities to pursue curriculum offerings that secondary schools are not able to offer. many students do take up these opportunities and do them alongside their VCE. the competition is very strong and both of our students have been able to demonstrate they are consistently producing outstanding outcomes within their courses.Pictured below is Pallavi receiving her award and Mina with "Toady" from Neighbors at the awards.
Year 7 Tennis
On Thursday 17th Oct, the year 7 girls and boys
tennis teams attended the interschool round robin at Koonung Secondary College.
They played in blustery conditions where showers of hail prevailed. Despite
difficult weather conditions, they played with enthusiasm and sportsmanship.
They were commended on their play and the great improvement shown in their
playing skills, managing some singles and doubles wins. Well done Year 7s
on a great performance!
