Dear all,

welcome to week 5 of Another GREAT Week.

Course Counselling

The important process of course counselling commenced this week following the construction of our curriculum grid for VCE in 2014. Year 11 student began working with Ms Kamvissis to lock away their Year 12 courses. Year 9 and 10 students will follow in the coming weeks. Parents are encouraged to stay very active throughout this selection time to assist guiding their children towards good decisions.

Science Week

After a week of wonderful activities promoting Science, the Science staff ran some final activities in the Labs on Friday lunchtime. They were well attended and the students have certainly enjoyed the immersion into the fascinating world of Science throughout the week. There was much debate as to the eventual winner of the Science photography competition. Students were to photograph a science phenomenon and write about it. There were many very good entries and selecting a winner was very difficult.

Performing Arts Carnival

The Performing Arts Carnival, or PAC, as we all call it was a massive success on Wednesday of this week. Months of preparations and fine tuning came to the pinpoint end of performance this week. Red won the music, Green won the Dance and Green won the Drama, meaning Green were the overall winners. However, the smiles on the students' faces all day indicated that for many students this is one of their favorite activities at the College.

Congratulations to all the staff and students so heavily involved in this awesome event.

ISP Lunch

This Friday staff from smart choice international agents put on a lunch for our International Students. It was a lovely spread of food enjoyed by the students.

Secondary Schools Deaf Sports

The Secondary Schools Deaf Sports were held on Tuesday this week.  One of our students, Lele won the medal for the best basketball player. All of our students participated in a wide variety of sports and caught up with friends from within the Deaf community.

French Culture in Melbourne

Year 9 and 10 French students enjoyed a day of French culture in Melbourne last week. We visited the National Gallery of Victoria's permanent French painting and sculpture collection from the 19th century in the morning. We viewed magnificent work from such masters as Monet, Manet, Sisley, Tissot and Rodin. For many students, it was their first visit to the NGV, and their feedback was very positive.

In the afternoon we watched the film "The Day of the Crows" at the ACMI Theatre. It was an animated French film with English sub-titles, and was both funny and poignant. The style of animation was very different from Hollywood films, which was a new experience for most students. The weather was beautiful, and overall it was a fun day of French culture in our very multi-cultural city.

SEAS Presentation to Year 12 Students

On Tuesday this week, our Year 12 students were given a presentation from Deakin University on SEAS applications.SEAS stands for Special Entry Access Scheme. Many institutions offer alternative entry schemes that take into account short and long-term disadvantage. While many are offered through the single VTAC SEAS application process, others require you to apply directly to the institution. All applicants should read the information to find out whether or not they are eligible to apply through SEAS or via one of the direct institutional schemes.

What is the Special Entry Access Scheme?

The Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS) is the umbrella program run by most institutions to which you will be applying for courses through VTAC. The Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS) is for applicants who have experienced educational disadvantage.
