welcome to week 5 of Another GREAT Week. Last week we had 273 page reads on our Blog. It is great to see so many people are checking in each week.
In the coming weeks we will be adding all students email addresses to the Blog mailing list. Compass has allowed us to do this and we believe this will enhance be something our students will enjoy.
This week we began with a lunch for our Chinese students. Celebrating Chinese New Year, Year of the Snake and Lantern Festival, over 150 students and staff attended the magnificent feast that celebrated the Chinese culture within our College.
On Tuesday this week in the Gym, we had an incursion drawing on the English and Health PE Domains, for our Year 7 & 8 students from the Solid State Circus. I was pleased to receive emails from Jasmine, Jack, Rebecca and Natasha reporting on the incursion. Excerpts from those emails are below.....
Rebecca H from Year 8 said, "I thought it was fantastic! It was very good they way they put it all together and the stunts they did were amazing. I had to hold my breathe in anticipation!
Jasmin E said " On Tuesday the 26th February the Solid State Circus came to Forest Hill College and Performed for us. It was amazing because the performers put drama into the acts, it was so funny I couldn't wipe the smile off my face. The stunts they performed were outstanding and I loved every second of it!!!"
Jack C said, "on Tuesday the 26th of February The year 7's and 8's went into the gym during period three to watch Solid State Circus. When they performed they were very funny and got most of the audience laughing. They did some tricks and they asked for some brave volunteers to do some tricks with. After they performed we got to meet them."
Natasha R said "The Solid State Circus was really funny and some people went up and the guys did tricks above or with the people.
It was a fantastic time having them come to this school and we really had a great time."
School tours began this week and we had some strong interest in the school, specifically in the Developing Sports Leaders Program and our STEM enhancement program. Tours are conducted on Wednesdays and Thursdays and can be booked through the General Office. The tours are conducted by one of the Principals, as they have always been.
College Council met for the first time this year on Wednesday evening. We welcomed our new Councillor, Anthony Russo, and farewelled outgoing member, Fiona Winstone. We thank Fiona for her contributions to Council. The composition of our sub committees was finalized. These sub committees play a key role in the Governance of the College. They meet monthly and report directly to Council. Those sub committees are, Finance, Facilities, Public Relations and Education. They are made up of members of Council and FHC staff.
We rounded out the week with a 1 and a 1/2 day retreat for our Leadership Team. The focus was on analysing our performance data in preparation for setting targets for the next 4 years. It was held locally at the Clarion Hotel and we worked hard as a team to identify what we have done well and where we can improve. We are very proud of the improved VCE results. In 2012 we had 10% of FHC students achieve an ATAR of 90 or above, which positions us very favourably relative to all schools in the State.
