Welcome to week 4 of Another GREAT Week.
Some key dates for all parents to be aware of for next week
Themed free dress day for Movember- Wednesday 7 November ( Come as your favorite moustached character)
Macbeth
On Wednesday this week our Year 11 students had a performance of Macbeth in the Theatre. It was interactive and involved a number of our students assuming the roles of the characters. This was a terrific method of immersing and making accessible to, our students in this classic literature.
Music Soiree
On Tuesday evening, our Spring Music Soiree was held. Below is an account of the evening by one of our staff members.
"I saw it all last night and enjoyed a wonderful a
wonderful Spring Soiree as well! What a delight to see the benefits of music
education first hand as students who were only beginners and those year 11's who
are now so accomplished, as well as all those in between, worked together to
MC, set up and perform a truly entertaining selection of music for an
appreciative audience. Congratulations to the performers, the parents who encourage, the instrumental teachers and especially
Cheryl Morrow who made it all happen.
The bonus of an unprepared encore was gold!!"
VCAL Dodge Ball Competition
Over Monday and Tuesday of this week, as part of the VCAL students Personal Development Skills component of their course, they ran a Dodge Ball Competition for Years 7-9 students. The students entered teams and enjoyed their games. A final was held and some photos from the final are below. The eventual winners were a team of Year 7 students, who won a close fought match against a Year 8 team that went into extra time. A large crowd cheered both teams on. Well done to the VCAL students who arranged the tournament and refereed each match. It was a wonderful opportunity for our students.
Year 9 Growth
This Wednesday the students doing the City Experience as their Year 9 Growth program left school after recess in pursuit of data for their projects. Three students had arranged an interview with Guy Grossi, of Masterchef fame. The initiative and organisation of some of these students has belied their age.
Year 8 Information Session for World Challenge 2013
Whilst the countdown for the 2012 World Challenge shows there are only 16 days until our team departs for Laos and Vietnam, on Wednesday evening over 80 people attended our information session for the 2013 World Challenge. Next year the World Challenge will see our students who select this as their Year 9 Growth experience trek to Borneo. We are looking forward to this new group of students embracing such a wonderful opportunity.
Year 12 exams commence
For most students, Thursday this week was the start of the VCAA exam period. Although a number of our students had already started their exams ( Auslan, some Lote subjects) most arrived nervously for their first exam. As we have said all along, the majority of this year's group have worked hard and should achieve their own personal best. We wish them all the best for the exam period, and remind all other students to make the most of every learning opportunity they have in class, every day. Many of our preparations through secondary schooling lead to VCE exams, and it is wise to cement good study and classroom habits from a young age. It would be foolish to leave the development of these until your VCE/ VCAL years. The foundations of a good later years experience are formed in the younger years.
Debating
On Wednesday evening the final debate for the year was held. Despite a one point loss, we hear that the teams are primed for a fantastic 2013. Well done to all staff and students who have been involved throughout 2012.
