Another GREAT Week 9

Dear all,

welcome to week 9 of Another GREAT Week.

Some key dates for all parents to be aware of for NEXT WEEK

Curriculum Development Day ( Student free Day) Monday 17 September

End Term 3 Friday 21 September

VCAA Exam preparation

On Wednesday we met with all students doing VCAA end of year exams. Again I challenged the students to pay the price necessary to be their personal best.
We reminded them of the importance of establishing sound sleeping habits, eating well and developing a study roster that is planned now, incorporating planning around their VCAA exam timetable. Our students should be ensuring an even spread of study time across their subjects to ensure they get the best out of themselves in all of their subjects.

Trivia Night

On Wednesday night Impact conducted their annual Trivia Night. Over 80 staff and students attended. This is a wonderful event that takes a lot of leadership and organisation to make happen. Congratulations to the Yr 12 boys who made up the winning team, and of course to our Impact team who organised and ran the event so well.

Year 9 Growth Celebrations

Growth Celebrations occurred across the Strathdon Elderly Community, Heatherwood and City Experience groups. Ms Cook, Ms Horton and Mr Rogers, as well as the Mayor of Whitehorse, attended a celebration of the collaborative development of a "Blue" seat, displayed now at the Nunawading Bunnings. The seat has been constructed by our students and members of the elderly community. In presenting the seat at Bunnings last Wednesday, the students and elderly citizens were also promoting the organisation "Beyond Blue." Well done to Sam, Rob, Jason and Josh, who made the seat with artist Jay. Below is a photo of the boys, the artist Jay, project co ordinator Liesl and the elderly residents ( seated on the seat) who made the seat at Bunnings.

Message to 2012 Year 9 Parents about laptops

A letter to all Year 9 students will be coming home soon indicating how their laptops will be replaced. Students will have an option to sell good quality machines to the school. All students in Year 9, 2013, will be provided with a netbook for years 10-12. The only cost for parents of Year 10 students in 2013 will be a $100 bond.

Message to Year 7 2013 Parents about Laptops

We have been able to secure a reduction in price of the new model Acer netbook for Year 7 families for 2013. This will amount to a reduction of approximately $80 off the price of the new model ( B113). As a result, we have removed the option of purchasing the run-out model from our website. The price of the new model has been negotiated down to equal the price of the run-out model. The ordering process is now open, and the expected delivery date is sometime in January, ready for the commencement of the 2013 school year.

Presentation Night 2012

Please note there are some Term 4 dates now below in our upcoming dates section. Presentation Night this year will be split into 2 events. One of the main reasons is we have not been satisfied with the venue we have been using and have been unable to locate a venue we have been suitably impressed with. We have such a wonderful Theatre, we decided to use it. The main limitation for us is it only holds 440 people. That is why we have split it into 2 nights. Tickets will be available soon, and we are looking forward to 2 wonderful celebrations of our student's success in 2012.
