Staff met after school on Monday to continue developing the Growth program. This program is a key element of the learning journey students take at the College. This is the first year of the program, and we have been pleased with the content and delivery so far. We have Forest Hill College students travelling to Thailand, participating in community service, volunteering for soup kitchens, organising events such as the Basketball Marathon, designing their ideal learning spaces and understanding their own learning styles more effectively.

Naplan testing commenced on Tuesday and continued through Wednesday and Thursday. This is a tiring experience for many students in Years 7 and 9. The results do give us an understanding of the levels students are at on that day in literacy and numeracy. They provide schools with data that can help evaluate the success of their programs based on the progress individuals and cohorts make. However, they do not define the type of person a student is, or for that matter the intelligence of a student. Intelligence comes in many shapes and sizes, some students excel in the emotional intelligences, some kinaesthetic, some spatial and some musical. Students and parents should not place too much emphasis on one particular aspect of a rounded education. Our school aims to develop the whole person.

Tours continued through this week. Primary school selections are due this Friday, and we are looking forward to finding out how many families have selected our College as their school of first choice. The numbers at Open Night and on tours, which commenced in February, and have continued every Wednesday and Friday at 9:15 am until this week have been strong.

Our Year 11 and 12 students participated in the Netball and Badminton round robins on Tuesday. Eleven girls played Netball and four boys played Badminton. They had a great day, with both teams competing well and representing our College in the manner we expect. Exemplary values and sportsmanship.

Year 11 and 12 Outdoor Education students went hiking in the Cathedral Ranges and were lucky enough to go in the second half of the week when the weather was better. They had a great time and focussed on the impact humans have had on wilderness environments over time, as an extension of their classroom experiences.

32 Year 9 students conducted a door-knock in the Forest Hill area as part of their Growth program for the Red Shield Appeal. They raised over $400, and as you would expect, received some excellent feedback about their involvement in this program.

Year 12 students had their second wellbeing session on Wednesday afternoon. The key message was around how they can achieve their best consistently throughout the year. They were asked to reflect on what strategies they had in place that were effective, and if there were any that they needed to discard or adjust in order to keep them on track to achieve their OWN PERSONAL BEST by years end.

Debating Round Three took place this week with our two senior teams having the daunting task of secret topic debates to contest with just one hour's preparation. Both teams constructed very detailed cases: well done by all and congratulations to C-Grade for an impressive win - with Paul K named best speaker in his debate.
D- Grade debaters were narrowly defeated but James B was adjudged best speaker for their debate. Well done to all - Round 4 in a fortnight's time!

102 Year 7-9 students enjoyed the French incursion on Thursday this week. The  performance was delivered in the main in French and focussed on French history and culture over time. Salut, tout le monde.

This Friday, as a lead into next week's Basketball Marathon, students enjoyed the Plants vs Zombies free dress day. The array of costumes on display by both staff and students was spectacular and the money raised through the gold coin donation will go to the Leukaemia Foundation.

This week's PL clip is taken from TED talks and available via You Tube. It is a presentation Steve Jobs, co-founder and CEO of Apple, made at a University Graduation. It is riveting and inspiring. It is titled, "How to live before you die"
