Another GREAT Week 4

Welcome to week 4 of Another GREAT Week.

We began our week as we always do with more rehearsals for Grate Expectations. These of course are also conducted on Thursday after school as well. The performances open on Thursday June 7 and close following the Friday June 8 show. We look forward to a packed house for both the shows. Contact Linda McGloin on L.McGloin@fhc.vic.edu.au for ticketing details

On Tuesday 43 of our Years 9 and 10 students were involved in Inter school sport. They have been training hard at lunchtime and represented the College in Soccer, Badminton and Netball.

On Wednesday the College Tribe Athletics Carnival was held at. The event was fantastic. Many students participated extremely well, doing personal bests and having fun. It is wonderful to see how well the entire College identifies with their Tribes. The track was a sea of colour. In actual fact, we took 8 bus loads full of approximately 400 students. This is a pleasing turn out from our students, and continues the positive response they made to the Tribe Swimming Sports.

Grade 5 transition visits have been happening now over the last 2 weeks. Grade 5 students from Blackburn, Blackburn Lake, Burwood Heights, Orchard Grove, Mt Pleasant Road and Parkmore have all been involved in classes at Forest Hill College in that time. Thanks to all our staff and student helpers who have worked so hard to make sure these were a great success. There is no doubt that our reputation as the school of first choice in this area is continuing to grow, and these visits are certainly a key element of that growth.

Domain Teams met on Wednesday after school and maintained their focus on documenting our curriculum on Moodle, and developing their Moodle skills.Staff met again on Thursday after school and continued their focus on developing differentiated units of work.

Homework Club, Chess Club, Grate Expectations rehearsals and Debating Team preparation all ran after school on Thursday. These activities combined are engaging over 150 students and numerous staff. They don't just happen, they require preparation and commitment. They are a fantastic reflection of the enthusiasm and dedication of both our staff and students.

Refurbishment of the Year 8 and 10 locker bays continued this week. Quotes for painting them and the adjacent toilets were obtained, as well as a thorough cleaning of them by our cleaning staff.

VCAL students continued planning the landscaping of the gardens within our courtyards. They are in the process of design and costing. We expect these gardens to be completed during Term 3.

The countdown to the Basketball Marathon continues. For those who are unaware. The students play a continuous match for 24 hours. They nominate a theme each year ( previous themes being Cops vs Robbers, Cowboys vs Indians etc). The aim is to raise money for local charities and the Cancer Council. This is a strong tradition at the College, and one the students look forward to each year. 10 Days to go to May 22 and the Zombies take on the Plants.

On Friday 35 of our Year 11 and 12 students, who also have been training at lunchtimes, represented the College in Soccer, Basketball and Table Tennis.

Our PL clip this week comes from TED. It is titled "what adults can learn from kids."

A truly inspiring reminder of the power of young people.
