We began the week as we so often do with rehearsals for Grate Expectations after school on Monday. They also rehearsed on Thursday after school. The staff and students have been working very hard and we are looking forward to see the finished product.
Our Domain leaders met and continued planning for the full implementation of Moodle. Parents should be seeing work or a course outline, for all their childrens classes on Moodle now. Our aim is to have all classes fully utilising Moodle by the end of this year. Whilst it is a work in progress, many staff have embraced this and made good progress in the subjects they teach to put their courses and assessment schedules online for parents and students to access 24/7. Progress reports indicate that a lot of work is happening by staff in the skill development phase. Once this is completed, students and parents will notice a significant increase in Moodle activity by staff. Having said that, a look at Moodle on a regular basis as a parent will demonstrate continual increased uptake of staff use, and I can say at this stage there are many courses online, and quite a number of subjects with at least a course outline on Moodle. Please feel free to have a browse at the subjects your child is doing to monitor our progress. If you have any questions, please email me on
rogers.david.l@edumail.vic.gov.au.
Moodle can be accessed by the following link

Login is via your child's school login
We had a ceremony in the gym to comemorate ANZAC day on Tuesday. Our Library staff had made a pin board display of information about the ANZACs and adorned it with rosemary. They also made sprigs of rosemary for students and staff to wear during the day.Our student leaders prepared and delivered a moving tribute to the ANZAC legend. They also researched a number of local diggers who lost their lives in World War 1 and spoke about their stories to the students. This local reference seemed to have a profound impact on our students. We then concluded a wonderful ceremony with the traditional one minutes silence.
On Tuesday after school, staff met in the working parties to continue the focus on developing our strategic improvements. The areas they are focussing on is
- Inclusive Curriculum
- eLearning
- Literacy & Numeracy across the curriculum
- Growth ( curriculum development of our Year 7-10 learning to learn program)
Tribe Assemblies were conducted this Thursday to begin Tribe Athletics arrangements. For parents wishing to watch our Tribe Athletics carnival, it is held at the Doncaster Athletics track on Wednesday May 9. We would love to see you there. If there are any parents who would like to assist on the day, please contact our Sport Co-ordinator, David Cutler at the College on 9814 9444.
The FHC Debating teams were at it again on Thursday evening. Round 2 began and we had three teams competing for three glorious wins. We also received the best speaker award. Well done Paul. This enhancement program has consistently achieved high results and this year looks certain to see that tradition continue. It is worth noting that both our Years 8 and 9 teams competed in age groups above what they could.
8A and 8D enjoyed a wonderful excursion to the State Library as part of their Humanities focus on Persia. This draws these excursions to a conclusion, with all of our Year 8 students experiencing rich learning and representing both themselves and their College wonderfully.
Year 11 and 12 Art students went on excursion to the National Gallery to see Top Arts. This is a fantastic experience for the students as they visit the exemplary works of Art from across Victoria from the 2011 VCE cohort. They were also fortunate enough to take a tour of the magnificent contemporary art exhibition, where their concept of what Art is gets really challenged, which stimulates rich conversations that develops a deeper understanding of Art. This of course stands them in good stead as they progress towards their end of year exams.
I conclude this weeks blog with our usual Professional Learning section and a mention of the work Melanie Fraser has done over the last 10 years. Today was Mel's last before she takes paternity leave. We would like to wish both Mel and her husband Campbell all the best for the birth of their first son. We thank Mel for the wonderful professionalism she has brought to her work and wish her well in the coming weeks. We also look forward to meeting her son and her return to FHC.
The Professional Learning this week comes in the form of a quote. We begin our differentiation professional learning as a staff next week, and I thought this quote apt, in that context.
"How do we make something of what happens to us in schools? Over the years a teacher or principal can have the same experience a hundred times, be it a perplexing budget or a difficult child, and learn little from it. Learning from experience is not inevitable. It must be intentional."
