Week 2 began with the Year 12 students on camp at Deakin Uni. The focus of the camp has been about raising the students expectations of themselves and how hard they can work to achieve their goals.
That night they went 10 pin bowling with a finely tuned bunch of elite staff bowlers. This was a lot of fun and a great way to build relationships with our Year 12 students in a relaxed environment. Thanks heaps to the legends who made this all happen, both the planning and facilitating and the participating. Thanks to those staff who gave up their time to go bowling after hours.
The Leadership Team met and finalized the 2012 AIP, a copy of this should be available soon. These targets will be the focus areas for our performance and development plans this year. With us all heading in the same direction, we will achieve a lot and the students benefit so much.
At the staff meeting we covered a range of topics that included catering for vision impaired students in class, OH&S, College Council elections, David's Principal Internship Program and the swimming sports arrangements.
Staff and students all had their photos taken on Thursday.
After school on Thursday the Domain Leaders met to continue their work. They looked at the continuing journey towards a documented curriculum and finalising our College position on Homework. We are keen to get this completed prior to year level information nights in coming weeks so we can make those expectations clear to parents.
Planning around Discovery Evening began in earnest, and we looked at when we could begin bringing grade 4 and 5 students into the College in the lead up to Discovery Evening to promote the great work happening in the classrooms. Tour dates have been set and are on the website.
Timelines around reporting and parent teacher nights were developed and many classes continued establishing their shared norms. It is wonderful to hear the students using the language. A very positive Learning Culture is evolving.
Year 8 and 9 laptops were re imaged and plans are afoot for the Year 10 and 11 NSSCF information night, where they will be given their netbooks.
An information session for Year 8 and 9 students has been put on the calendar for Tuesday 21 Feb at 6:30. It will be great to see staff, students and parents interacting on the night. .
The Year 7 BBQ planning is also well under way.
These Year Level Information Nights are designed to build relationships, and also to set our expectations clearly, so parents understand the high expectations we have of our students. These sessions build strong links between staff and parents and go a long way to cement our Learning Culture.
The year 11 and 12 students met together for Homegroup on Friday and set themselves a challenge to attend the swimming carnival in big numbers. They were congratulated for their positive start. They were also invited to work with Vernon and Aggie in establishing protocols for the use of the Study centre. These will be puiblished and signed by all students. All year 12 students now have their rugby jumpers and jackets. They look very smart. The students are feeling great and working well. We have had numerous opportunities to praise students for their work habits in the Study Centre so far. Keep challenging them and setting the bar high.
Much has been made to date about the fantastic feel we have all had to the start of this year. Lets keep this up, and please can we ask that we really push high expectations from the start in:
· Punctuality
· work ethic
· learning attitude
· dress code
· behaviour
It’s about being and giving our best.
