Week 1 2012

Welcome back team. As you would expect, we got off to a great start on Wednesday Feb 1. Proceedings were initiated in the Theatre with a presentation from Jenny outlining our strategic directions for 2012.

We warmly welcome to our team, our new staff, Jess, Russell, Amanda and Jane . We will do all we can to support you and trust you have a great time working in the FHC culture.

It was awesome to all be in the one space together and as Jenny said, it has been a long time coming to develop "one space, one staff, one purpose". There certainly has been a very busy, bubbly and positive feel in the space. We have all been working hard, but the camaraderie and support professionally for each other has been very obvious. It has been a great start.

The remainder of the start up days was devoted to team planning and getting off smoothly with the students as we introduced our learning culture to them on Friday.

Friday was a great success, and the new year 7 students settled in very well. Students in years 8-12 quickly re established old routines, found new areas to socialize in at recess and lunch as they progressed to their new year level and they all appeared very happy in the yard.

Buddies have been assigned to all new year 8-12 students to ensure they have a smooth transition into FHC. This is a very important initiative that we have practiced for several years now to "induct" them to the College.

Tribe assemblies went off well. Students seemed engaged in the opportunities that Tribe programs create for them, and look keen to get involved. Let's keep encouraging this. As Meagan said, the curriculum is only one component of their education. Extra curricular activities form a massive part of developing students resilience and enriches the development of the whole child.that can only happen through your efforts and we appreciate that. We look forward to the swimming carnival on Friday Feb 17.
Students all received their permission form for the year for all sport excursions, including carnivals, in a bid to streamline the admin in this area and reduce paper waste. They are pink to enable easy identification. Can all staff remind students they all need to return them please.

Thanks to all staff who have planned and led the start to our year, and who have contributed to the enrollment of all new students for 2012.

This weeks PL clip is taken from Youtube. It is about those "different" kids in our classrooms. Once we get to know them, it is amazing what we find out about them. Who knows who we really have in our classrooms and what their potential is.

"Here's to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules, and they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify and vilify them. About the only thing you can't do is ignore them because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as crazy, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do."

As we like to say, it has been a great week at FHC.
