Another GREAT Week- 4

As they say in the classics. A week is a long time at FHC. So much happens in 5 days.

We began the week with our Intermediate sport teams competing on Monday. 49 year 9 and 10 students took to the Cricket fields and the Gym to play Volleyball.
On Monday we held an open forum for staff to discuss and contribute to our uniform policy.
Parents Association met with Jenny for the first time this year. They discussed issues such as homework and uniform.
Wednesday was a massive and exciting day. College Council sat for the first time in 2012. The uniform draft was put to Council and created quite a bit of discussion. The Yr 7 parent BBQ was held between information sessions for the rollout of our Year 10 and 11 netbooks. The students were all excited and keen to be using their device as soon as possible. Events like these require a lot of preparation. We really appreciate the organisation that went into tonight. It was very successful.

Our parents seemed really pleased with the events. All of them heard about our learning culture and about a raising of the bar across all the things we and the parents and students do within our community. The year 10 and 11 students also received some support on cybersafety.
The year 7 parents mingled with each other and our staff and the beginning of  strong and productive relationships were initiated.
Of course our year 10 and 11 students went home with their new devices.

Our challenge is to engage immediately with the device and provide frequent opportunities for them to use them in all classes.

We spoke with all of those who did not attend the events on Thursday. Consistent with our intent of elevating our expectations of each other, within a restorative framework, they were held to account for not attending. Although it takes time and effort on our behalf in the short term, following through with outcomes for students who do not operate within our learning culture helps build a very strong learning culture in the long run.

Our Yr 7 students also began receiving their netbooks this Friday during home group. Thanks to all staff who made these events happen.
Friday saw our Outdoor Ed students off on their first excurions for the year, visiting black rock for some snorkeling.
Friday also was the day our Yr 11 and 12 students were presented back with the study centre protocls. To give you an idea as to how effective they are, as i write this, it is 1.40 on Friday, and 19 students are silently studying during lunch, unsupervised in the centre. What a learning culture.

What a week.............. Have a great weekend.

This weeks PL is a link to a free learning styles test online that you may like to use to help you and your students better understand their learning styles.
