Dear all
welcome to Week 9 of Another GREAT Week
Year 7 Camp
Despite rather ordinary conditions, year 7 camp went full steam ahead. The kids faced their fears on the giant swing, tree top challenge and flying fox. The massive downpour cancelled some beach activities but Manyung Camp staff came up with great alternatives like pizza making, archery and battleships. At night, after a delicious dinner students were treated to bush dancing and a mind-blowing magic show Mr Cutler's Father, Mr Cutler. The second night was based around newspapers with newspaper brides and grooms and a free-for-all of making a huge mess in the recreation hall. Overall it was a great time had by all and in true form to Melbourne weather the sun finally decided to shine as we were on our way home.
Outstanding Metal Work
Our Year 9 Metalwork students are now completing their
wrought iron candelabras. The students created their own designs, cut out and
shaped each component before welding together and painting them. Pictured here
is Anthony Spolidoro with his twin candle creation which will really shine
carrying some Christmas candles.
Primary School Mentoring
Throughout 2013 ten of our year 10 students have been going
to Mount Pleasant Road Primary School every week to mentor younger students.
Both groups have learned a lot as a result of this
experience and we look forward to offering a new group of year 10’s this
opportunity in the future.
This week 8 of our year 10 Mentors went back to Mount
Pleasant Road Primary School to give Christmas presents to the students that
they had worked with throughout the year. Brooke B is to be congratulated for
planning and organising this (with the help of others). The younger students
were very excited to see Dylan S decked out in his slim fitting Santa suit
(what a great sport!). Each of the mentors had personally purchased a small
gift for their student. The Primary School students were very excited to
receive these on the day. Well done to all of the Forest Hill College Students
that were involved.
Dizzy's Jazz Club
On
Tuesday evening our senior stage band, brass ensemble and senior percussion
ensemble joined instrumental music students from John Monash Science School to
present a wonderful evening of live entertainment for the public at Dizzy’s Jazz Club in Richmond. Performances
included blues, jazz, swing, taiko drumming and popular vocals. The students were well received by a ‘full
house’ audience and it was a great experience for them to perform in a live
jazz venue. Congratulations to all involved on a very exciting and enjoyable
musical evening!
IMPACT Art Mural
In 2012 IMPACT members took part in a project which involved putting their creative expertise to use to paint plain cd's. This year's IMPACT group have put the colourful cd's to use by creating an art mural which features the painted cd's as leaves on a tree.
Second Hand Book & Uniform Sale
The second hand book and uniform sale was a huge success. A huge thank you to the Parents Association for organising and running the sale. A reminder to all parents/students that all unsold books and uniform are now available to be picked up at the Forest Hill College General Office.
