Dear all, welcome to week 7 Term 1.

As always it has been another GREAT week. We had 80 Deakin University students work with us supporting students Literacy in the classroom this Wednesday. On Friday our Leadership Team spent the entire day planning out the next 5 years Professional Learning for staff. We are united around the agenda for improving the quality of teaching and learning, and have established some clear focus areas. We are aware of the research that indicates the greatest variation in teaching practice does not occur between schools, it occurs within schools. We have been working hard this year to reduce that variation at Forest Hill College and ensure the experience for all students in all classes is excellent. Our current round of Learning Walks and Principal Team classroom observations has highlighted some key strengths we plan to build on. We have some fabulous teaching and learning happening. Our plan is to broaden that by utilizing the expertise from within our expert team of teachers to assist us all improve our practice, learning from each other's strengths.
Public perceptions of the College are growing stronger each year. Our Transition Tours have been very well populated and we are excited about enrolments for 2015. We are continually approached by students wishing to enrol in the College.

PARENTS' ASSOCIATION ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING- 7PM MONDAY 17 MARCH 2014

Forest Hill College Parents' Association is a great opportunity for parents to get together and make an improvement to the education of all
students in the College.  Any parent or guardian of a child enrolled at Forest Hill College may become a part of the association.

The Parents’ Association supports the education and welfare of our children by facilitating communication between the College and parents, helping with social
and community events within the school, fund raising and supporting the IMPACT and Student Wellbeing teams.

The Parents’ Association Annual General Meeting is to be held at 7.00 pm on Monday, 17th March 2014 in the staff room.  Refreshments will be provided.

We need new members to continue and we would love to see some new faces.  We are a very informal social group.  Our aim is to support the school and have fun at the same time.

PRE VCE CITY TRIP

Yesterday we went to the city for sightseeing with Ms Hood and Ms Markey. The view was very beautiful. We took a photo together at Flinders Street Station. Then we went into St Paul’s Cathedral. It was the most splendid church I had ever seen. We saw the organ pipes. They were big and it must be wonderful when the organ pipes are being played. Then we visited Federation Square. The information centre is on the square and we can get a lot of useful information about Melbourne from there. We went to the Screen World at ACMI as well. It showed the history of the moving image. I think technology has really changed people’s lives. After Screen World, we went through the lane ways of Melbourne to the City Library. There were many stores in lane ways that sold food or souvenirs. The City Library is a good place to learn new things. It will be really helpful for our study. Another place we visited was Queen Vic Market. It is a good place for tourists to go to because there are many souvenirs there. We saw many aboriginal works of art like dot paintings and wooden instruments. The market was interesting. We also went to the Shrine, which is magnificent. We should always remember the people who died for us to have a peaceful life. We could see many tall buildings and beautiful sights on top of the shrine. Yesterday we visited many places, though we were tired at last, we did have fun not only because of the beautiful views in the City but also because we learnt the culture and history of Melbourne.
