Another Great Week @ FHC Week 9

Welcome to week 9.What a week........

We have continued another great week. At College Council, members continued to encourage and praise the work that is done by staff at FHC. They are always supportive of your work as we are so congratulations once again.

Year 10 and 11 exams commenced this week. They ran from Monday to Thursday inclusive and by all accounts ran very smoothly. It appears that the rigour around the processes are assisting the students as they move into VCAA exams. We now have procedures for Derived Exam Scores and Special Exam Arrangements embedded from Year 10. The signifcance of this is the support that at risk students are given. Also for those students eligible for Special Exam Arrangements in Year 12, the establishment of a history is a significant component of this application.

Thanks Chris for your leadership in this area.

On Tuesday our Year 12 students visited Deakin Uni for the annual Tertiary Information Service.

On Wednesday our Leadership Team met to flesh out the final elements of the new Working Party structures for Terms 3 and 4. This outstanding work by all staff over the previous 12 months will continue in revamped Working Parties, to now embedd the developments we have all agreed upon. These developments will lead to significant improvements for students from next year. All staff are to be congratulated for their contributions to this stage. We are excited about the

Thursday saw the continuation of the 9A Intergenerational experience.
Friday was the Senior Round Robin. The Year 10 Work Related Program, incorporating "Keys Please", ran as a prelude to their Work Experience next week.

Thanks Thea for all of your work getting the Work Experience, TIS, Keys Please and Work Ready programs off the ground.

Again we celebrate the wonderful achievements our debating teams and students make. More best speaker awards this week. Congratulations to all students and staff involved in debating for this great work. You are a credit to our College.

The first draft of reports were printed on Tuesday. The process is a very time consuming one for all staff involved and we thank everyone for their work in ensuring our students and their famillies receive valuabble feedback about their progress.

Thanks Sue and Janine especially for ensuring the report process and timeline has been well presented and adhered to.

College Council sat on Wednesday night. Two of the focus areas that will interest staff are a review of the College Uniform contract. Next week out of the Common Room between 2.30 and 3.30, our current uniform suppliers, Victoria Schoolwear, will open an onsite uniform shop. They have recently changed ownership, and this is an attempt by them to provide a superior service to our community.

The student leaders, Ellise and Lauren, who represented Impact made a magnificent report and contributed to College Council discussion through the meeting. They were extremely well prepared. The work they are doing is brilliant. Three of our Student Leaders attended the SRC conference on Friday to represent our College amongst other schools in the State. Thanks Naomi for leading this work.

The other area is the safe use of our Mahoneys Road driveway. We approached Vic Roads last term to explore a traffic olution to improve the safety of the intersection for all users. We have also approached the Primary school about widening our footpath that runs adjacent the Mahoneys Road driveway.

We now are in the position of having most of Semester two's timetable complete. A lot of consultation and planning goes into this work.

Thanks Vernon for your leadership in this.

A lot of great things have been happening and will continue to happen at the College. We are doing so many things right for our students and that is rewarding for all of us. Keep it up team!

The photo below is of camels in the desert. Look closely for the camels.

When seeking to understand others, sometimes it is not always evident at first, what is actually their real meaning.

The picture is taken directly above the camels at sunset. When you look closely, the camlels are the white lines in the picture and the black images are merley their shadows.

This week we explore the concept of differentation as our weekly PL topic. The following is an exerpt from the book, "Leadership for Differentiating Schools and Classrooms."
Differentiation is a key component of quality teaching. Quality teaching is what we are all on about. Please take the time to read this and feel free to post a comment in response.
